Fortaleza's Pinto Martins International Airport (FOR) is the gateway to Ceará and the natural starting point for a trip to Jericoacoara. But the village isn't a taxi ride away: it sits about 300 km northwest, behind a national park where the only access is a 4×4 crossing over the dunes. This page explains exactly how to get from the airport to Jeri — and how to do it in one booking, without improvising at the arrivals hall.

The one-booking route from the airport

With Transfer Jerico, the airport transfer is a single, continuous trip. An air-conditioned shuttle collects you — at the airport itself or at your Fortaleza hotel if you spend a night in the city — and drives roughly 5 hours to Jijoca de Jericoacoara, where the paved road ends. There, a 4×4 jardineira takes over for the final ~40 minutes across the dunes into the village. One ticket covers both legs, the schedule is fixed, and support is available in English, French and Portuguese.

For the full step-by-step of the journey itself, see our guide on how to get to Jericoacoara.

Should you go straight from the airport, or stay a night in Fortaleza?

It depends on your flight time, because departures toward Jeri run in a morning window (7am–8am):

The last stretch from Jijoca into Jericoacoara is done by 4×4 jardineira — included in your transfer.

Why not a taxi or self-drive from the airport?

A regular taxi or rental car can only take you as far as Jijoca — no car can enter Jericoacoara. You'd then have to find and pay for a 4×4 crossing on the spot, leave your vehicle in a guarded lot, and manage it all in Portuguese. Once you add rental, fuel, parking and the dune crossing, a self-arranged trip usually costs more than an all-in transfer, with none of the support if something goes wrong on a long rural road.

Landing at FOR? 5 things to know

  1. Give us your flight number. It lets us align your pickup with your arrival and adjust if the flight shifts.
  2. Book ahead. Morning departures and jardineiras fill up fast in high season (July, December–January). Reserve at least 48h out.
  3. Budget the park fee. Jericoacoara National Park charges R$41.50 per person, separate from the transfer. Pay online in advance to skip the queue.
  4. Carry some reais. ATMs exist in Jeri but can run empty in high season — withdraw at the airport before you leave.
  5. Pack light for the dunes. The 4×4 has limited space: one suitcase + one backpack per person. Tell us in advance about oversized luggage.
